About this course

You may be a novice who has been on a writing course before, or someone a little more experienced who wishes to expand their skills and knowledge. On this course we will concentrate on introducing new styles and techniques as well as building on skills you may already have. Under the friendly guidance of your tutor, you will have the opportunity to produce pieces of imaginative written work and share them with the group.
Most of your written work will be done at home and shared with the group in a constructive way.
By the end of this course you should be able to:
- Respond to and assess pieces of writing with sensitivity
- Demonstrate an understanding of what you may expect from creative writing classes
- Produce several short pieces of creative writing and one extended one
- Use your critical awareness.

Please note: this is not a course for those wishing have an in-depth critique of their own in progress such as a novel or collection of poems or stories.

There is limited parking on site, but there is a public car park nearby and on-street parking.

How will I be taught?

Your tutor will create a supportive environment that encourages students to evaluate their own work and to give constructive criticism of other's work. If you have a disability and think it may affect your learning in the classroom, or using any of our other services, please speak to us in confidence as soon as possible. We will discuss options with you and do our best to provide the support you need.
Initial assessment will be carried out at the beginning of the course to assess individual skill level. Each student's starting point will be recorded on an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) and targets will be set. This will be revisited from time to time during the course to monitor and record progress. Tutors will mark homework and give written or verbal feedback.
