About this course

Do you want to speak French more confidently? Then this French Intermediate course in Deal is for you.
The aim of the course is to to give students the opportunity to consolidate their knowledge of the language and culture through enjoyable and interesting interaction. Students will build upon material covered in Year 3 and year 4 courses. A range of different topics will be introduced from everyday life and daily news, covering topics such as: education, environment, transport, science, sport, art, etc.

You will be given small amounts of homework each week (max 1hr) to reinforce classroom learning.

By the end of the course successful students will be able to:
- participate in and communicate confidently on a range of situations
- understand most of what is said by a native speaker in a range of predictable situations
- use present, past and future tenses more accurately
- read texts of varying difficulty with limited use of a dictionary

There is limited parking on site, but there is a public car park nearby and on-street parking.

How will I be taught?

The focus will be on oral communication (speaking and listening) and some reading and writing will also be included. Pronunciation and French culture are an integral part of the course. The course will be conducted mainly in the foreign language. Learners will work through different activities individually, in pairs and in small groups, using a variety of learning methods and resources (role-play and games etc). Homework set will provide and opportunity for self study including the use of on-line resources.
Initial assessment will be carried out at the beginning of the course to assess individual skill level. Each student's starting point will be recorded on an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) and targets will be set. This will be revisited from time to time during the course to monitor and record progress. Tutors will mark homework and give written or verbal feedback.

What do I need to bring with me?

The course book will be discussed at the first session if appropriate. Students will need to bring a pen and paper and an A4 ring binder for handouts, although we advise students not to buy anything until after the first session.
