By the end of this course you should be able to:

Understand and use a variety of hand building skills (coiling, pinching, soft and hard slab building, press moulding) to an appropriate level

Make a variety of thrown forms that demonstrate development of throwing skills

Use a variety of surface decorating and glazing techniques to an appropriate level

Be aware of and work to health and safety guidelines.

How will I be taught?

Your tutor will use a variety of teaching methods including demonstrations, one to one guidance, group discussions and critiques. You will look at the work of contemporary and historical artists and/or craftspeople. You will undertake critical evaluation, develop creative skills and enhance/develop personal skills.
The tutor will provide feedback on your work through one to one guidance and group critiques.
At the start of the course you will work with your tutor to develop an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) to set out what you want to achieve by the end of the course. You will both monitor and assess your progress throughout the course to ensure your learning needs are being met. There are no formal exams or tests to complete on this course.

What do I need to bring with me?

Please wear old clothes and shoes. Clay is paid for by weight at a reasonable rate in class. Health and safety issues will be discussed and you will be instructed in the application of safe working practices.
