How will I be taught?
Tutors will use a variety of teaching methods including demonstration, instructions, one-to-one tutorial guidance, group discussions and critiques.
What do I need to bring with me?
Please bring any sewing equipment you already have such as scissors, pins, flexible tape measures.
You will need a shift dress pattern which ideally has a zip. Look at the measurements on the pattern for the size as these are not always the same as high street sizes (you will usually need a bigger size pattern).
Buy the fabric as advised on the pattern or call the centre for advice, Try to avoid patterns that will need matching such as stripes and tartan. A reel of thread that matches the main colour of your fabric.
If you have your own sewing machine please bring it with you, but we have plenty of machines you can use if you don't.
What can I do next?
You could take further craft sewing, dressmaking or soft furnishing courses to develop your sewing skills. Your tutor will be able to advise you on the appropriate next steps.
What do I need to join the course
Everyone is welcome, no previous experience is necessary.
It is important to note that craft courses are practical, requiring a degree of manual dexterity.
If you need to bring a carer with you, or be accompanied by another person, please ask to speak to the programme manager before you enrol.
