How will I be taught?
This course will involve full learner participation and self-reflection. There will be personal and sensitive discussions in small and large groups, group activities and role plays in pairs or triads (groups of three) followed by observer feedback.
Assessment will be by learning statement/journal and the observation of practical skills demonstrated during the course. You will be given assignments and/or a research project/presentation. There is also an external exam set by CPCAB.
What do I need to bring with me?
A4 ring binder with dividers, notebook and pen. A student book will be provided - the cost of which is covered in the course fee.
What can I do next?
The next step is the CPCAB’s Level 3 Certificate in Counselling Studies (CST-3) or an equivalent qualification. Your tutor can advise you or visit www.kentadulteducation.co.uk.
What do I need to join the course
Before enrolling on this course, you will need to complete an online application form available at this link https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/Counselling19-20. Following submission of your application you will need to make arrangements to come into one of our Adult Education Centres to complete a literacy assessment. This checks your suitability for the course and helps identify any additional support required. You will then be offered a choice of interview slots during the period May to July. The interview involves a frank and open discussion with a Counselling tutor about your personal readiness, the content and level of the course which then ensures that you understand the personal, educational and financial commitments.
Places are often taken up quickly so early application is highly recommended.
It is not necessary to have completed an introductory course before enrolling on this course, but we do advise those with no previous listening/helping experience and knowledge to do so.
It is recommended that you don't enrol on this course if you have undergone a life-changing experience during the last 12 months, ie. bereavement. You will be expected to explore some personal history that you feel safe to share but this course is not a replacement for personal therapy.
